Activism
It began with Greenpeace at Southampton Institute in the mid 90's. Direct action at the Mururoa protests, including invading the Prime Minister's country residence at Chequers when Jacques Chirac (invited, unlike CND and Greenpeace...) visited John Major. Leafleted the French Amassador's garden party on Bastille Day that year too. All fun...
Richard has been a member of a number of parties depending on personal loyalty to local members.
Politicised by being discriminated against for his mental health, Richard joined the media campaign Shift Speaker's Bureau in 2006 to speak out about the stigma being as ruinous to one's life as the mental illness stigmatised.
Moving to Weymouth in 2010 Richard got involved in the AV Referendum campaign, supporting Fair Votes for Dorset. He is now Membership Secretary of the organisation Dorset 4 Democracy that emerged after the kicking in the referendum.
From activism to mainstream politics, Richard is now running for Weymouth West as a Liberal Democrat, hoping to win in May 2012. He takes the view that the Lib Dems are the milk in the Tory coffee - black coffee has a well known effect on the bowel, as would a pure Tory government.
